Jon Pousette-Dart captained the Pousette-Dart Band through four albums for Capitol Records between 1976 and 1980, a run that acquainted a generation with his formidable gifts as a singer, songwriter, arranger, guitarist and all-around musical adventurer. During this time, the Pousette-Dart Band became one of the busiest touring groups in the U. S., working with such acts as the Byrds, Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat, James Taylor, Yes, the J. Geils Band, Eddie Money, Peter Frampton, Journey and Billy Joel.

"When things got scary - as the seventies petered out and the eighties skulked in," Pousette-Dart muses, "while folks were trying to figure out how they ever got stuck in the position of having to choose between Donna Summer and Johnny Rotten, the original Pousette-Dart Band did what any halfway moral, responsible band would do - we took a break." Pousette-Dart, himself, however, kept on trucking.

This year - 2009 - Pousette-Dart will continue his solo and band performances around the country with dates in Europe as well.. In addition to performing, he continues working hard on the Estate of Richard Pousette-Dart which promotes the works of his late father, the eminent abstract expressionist Richard Pousette-Dart. Jon has worked with his family developing shows for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of Art, The Indianapolis Museum of Fine Art, the Knoedler Gallery in New York and the Museums of Fine Arts in Houston and Boca Raton, Florida, as well as ACA Munich, Germany, the Schirne Kunsthalle in Frankfurt, Germany, and future shows in Europe . Shows include exhibitions at Los Angeles County Museum of Fine Art, the San Francisco Museum of Fine Art, and the Cleveland Museum of Fine Art all in 2005-2007. A major show was also mounted at The Guggenheim in Venice Italy which traveled to The Guggenheim in NYC . A major publication on Random House/ Rizzoli was also released in 2007, titled, "Richard Pousette-Dart, The New York School and Beyond." New shows of his paintings, works on paper, and photographs, are currently in the works.

The Waymores: Alt-Nashville Writers-in-the-Round

The stories behind the songs. The heart behind the music. Way cool Nashville in an intimate setting.

Grammy Award winner Don Henry's songs have been recorded by Ray Charles, Patti Page, Conway Twitty, Kathy Mattea and dozens of other great artists... but they shine brightest when sung by the artist who wrote them. Long appreciated as one of Nashville's finest singer-songwriters, Don is revered by fans, critics and peers alike for being one of the most inspiring, entertaining and funny(!) artists you are ever likely to see and hear.

Whether in her own hands or those of hit artists like Martina McBride or Lee Ann Womack, Sally Barris’s music makes an indelible impression. And while her writing credits mightily impress—her songs have been covered by Trisha Yearwood & Keith Urban, John Michael Montgomery, Kathy Mattea and many others—fans and peers are most captivated by her bright spirit and high mountain soprano.

Tom Kimmel's business card facetiously reads Overnight Success, but the truth is far from it. After graduating college he worked as a short order cook, bus boy, taxi driver, chef, shipping clerk, lab technician, janitor, waiter, bartender and window washer on his way to establishing himself as an award winning songwriter (Johnny Cash, Linda Ronstadt, Joe Cocker, Randy Travis and a host of others) and critically acclaimed performing artist (seven albums).

... what you should know about John Smith, is that he is the real deal. A singer/songwriter who has found his voice and his place and will take you there through his music. I think it speaks for itself, directly from his heart to yours. I promise you will be moved."
Randy Brown, Mineola TX

" Not only does he spell his name as one word, he doesn't always capitalize it. Actually he could call himself wordsmith or songsmith just as easily, because he certainly can smith a song."

Joe Henry of Acoustic Sounds cafe, Little Rock, AR.

"When I first heard John Smith my attention was captured by his sweet, earthy voice and fine craftsmanship, but what drew me in was his heart. It's clear that he's lived the pain in his songs and that his optimism is hope born of wisdom. That's a rare thing and a gift to all who hear him."

Tom Kimmel

"Since winning the New Folk competition, John’s songwriting and performing skills have become finely honed.. Audiences find his originality and genuineness totally engaging and refreshing."

Rod Kennedy of the Kerrville Folk Festival

"I feel like every time one of your songs gets heard a little healing happens to the world. And we need all of that we can get, that's for sure."

Dana  Cooper

Singer/songwriter Dana Cooper has wowed audiences throughout the U.S. and Europe recently with tunes from his newest album, Made of Mud,  released on September 13th on King Easy Records. Cooper's ingenious guitar work and gutsy harmonica continue to augment his passionate voice and insightful lyrics. This collection of eleven songs produced by Richard McLaurin features acclaimed Nashville talents Dave Jacques, Paul Griffith, Eric Fritsch, Steve Hermann and Vickie Hampton.

Out of the heartland of America - the stomping ground of Truman and Twain - Cooper was playing his music in Kansas City clubs by the age of 16. Leaving behind a college art scholarship, Dana toured the country and landed in Los Angeles. In 1973, Elektra Records released his self-titled debut solo album featuring luminary players Russ Kunkel, Leland Sklar and Jim Horn. Cooper later moved to Texas to join forces with long-time friend Shake Russell. Their collaborations produced five highly successful folk-rock albums, including one on MCA in 1981. The two became one of the most popular acts throughout Texas and the Southwest appearing together on Austin City Limits. Dana and Shake continue recording and performing together to this day.
Over the years Dana has released many independent solo albums including the critically acclaimed Miracle Mile on Compass Records. This album was nominated for a Nashville Music Award as "Best Pop Album" and was picked by Performing Songwriter Magazine as one of the top twelve DIY recordings for the year. Cooper's latest CD, Harry Truman Built A Road, was named one of the best records of 2002 by The Tennessean in Nashville and was again chosen as one of the top twelve DIY recordings for that year.

Recent tours of Denmark, Ireland, Sweden and Germany have gained Cooper exuberant support from audiences and radio as well as collaborations and friendships with many songwriters in these countries.

Cooper has been named Best Songwriter in Houston, was nominated Best Male Vocalist by the Kerrville Music Foundation and was nominated by their Hall of Fame. His songs have been recorded by top-notch artists Mauro O'Connell, Jonell Mosser, Susan Werner, Jen Cohen, Christine Albert, Trout Fishing in America, Pierce Pettis, John Smith and Shake Russell.

Cooper's new album crowns those accomplishments with a suite of songs that span the entirety of his career. The most recent, "Sit This One Out," was finished during recording sessions last year; the earliest, "Step Into The Light," was written with Russell in San Francisco three decades ago. "I wanted purposely to include some of these older songs," says Cooper. "I thought they fit what I'm doing now. It's funny how a song that old will still be so timely." There is one unexpectedly timely tune on Made of Mud that Cooper didn't write: Woody Guthrie's "Pretty Boy Floyd." It's the first cover version Cooper has ever included on an album, although he's been performing it since his coffeehouse years in Missouri. "I thought some of the things that are going on now hearken back to the Depression, when there were outlaws in the country fighting against the banks and the big-money guys," he explains. "I see the time we're in now as similar to that time in a lot of ways."

"You've never seen a show  like Rick's before. He is an encyclopedia of  acoustic music, both tradidional and current, and his ability to tell the tale is unparalleled. He plays banjo and piano  brilliantly, and his voice is like a back rub.I suspect he'll be joined by his old friend, Doug, throughout the evening......

Here is a man with a voice that is warm enough to fry eggs on...And this great voice is backed by some consummate musicianship...nothing short of sublime. Above all, I like his eclecticism. Nearest to his heart seems to be the traditional ballad from the British Isles. But hot on its heels, comes a love of country artists like Lefty Frizzell and the Louvin Brothers;  folk icons like Richard Fariña and Kate Wolf, and ace contemporary songwriter Bill  Danoff (Country Roads”), represented with a fine song of his – co-written with autoharp virtuoso Bryan Bowers.
